چکیده

Forty-one strains of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus were tested for their ability to induce the proliferation of murine splenocytes using the MTT assay. The tested bifidobacteria induced the apparent proliferation of the murine splenocytes in a strain-dependent manner, while non of the tested lactobacilli showed any mitogenic activity. The bifidobacteria from allergic infants stimulated the proliferation of murine splenyoctes more than those from healthy subjects. On the otherhand, no significant differences were observed in the ability among the selected bifidobacteria and lactobacilli to alter Concanavalin A stimulated proliferation of murine splenyocytes. These results suggest that lactobacilli and bifidobacteria may, at least partly, posses a different potential in the way by which they can affect human immune responses.

Enzymatic Activity in Fermented Milk Products Containing Bifidobacteria

TROJANOVÁ I., RADA V. (2005): Enzymatic activity in fermented milk products containing bifidobacteria. Czech J. Food Sci., 23: 224–229. Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus and Bifidobacterium animalis strains were tested for α-galactosidase, β-galactosidase and α-glucosidase activities. Commercially available yoghurts with bifidobacteria were also tested. Whi...

Localisation of the mitogenic epitope of staphylococcal enterotoxin B.

Limited digestion of staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB) with trypsin resulted in the generation of a 12-Kda amino-terminal fragment and a 17-Kda carboxy-terminal fragment which were isolated by preparative iso-electric focusing. The carboxy-terminal fragment exhibited significant mitogenic activity for murine splenocytes, whereas the isolated amino-terminal fragment possessed little detectable ...

A Novel Lectin with Antiproliferative and HIV-1 Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitory Activities from Dried Fruiting Bodies of the Monkey Head Mushroom Hericium erinaceum

A lectin designated as Hericium erinaceum agglutinin (HEA) was isolated from dried fruiting bodies of the mushroom Hericium erinaceum with a chromatographic procedure which entailed DEAE-cellulose, CM-cellulose, Q-Sepharose, and FPLC Superdex 75. Its molecular mass was estimated to be 51 kDa and its N-terminal amino acid sequences was distinctly different from those of other isolated mushroom l...

Effect of Cereal Type and Enzyme Addition on Performance, Pancreatic Enzyme Activity, Intestinal Microflora and Gut Morphology of Broilers

The effects of grain and carbohydrase enzyme supplementation were investigated on digestive physiology of chickens. A total of 625 one-day-old chicks (Ross 308) were randomly assigned to five treatments in a completely randomized design. Treatments included two different types of grains (wheat, and barley) with or without a multi-carbohydrase supplement. A corn-based diet was also considered to...

Anti-inflammatory and Intestinal Barrier–protective Activities of Commensal Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria in Thoroughbreds: Role of Probiotics in Diarrhea Prevention in Neonatal Thoroughbreds

We previously isolated the commensal bacteria lactobacilli and bifidobacteria from the Thoroughbred intestine and prepared the horse probiotics LacFi(TM), consisting of Lactobacillus ruminis KK14, L. equi KK 15, L. reuteri KK18, L. johnsonii KK21, and Bifidobacterium boum HU. Here, we found that the five LacFi(TM) constituent strains remarkably suppressed pro-inflammatory interleukin-17 product...
